History of Thermal Arc

Thermal Arc was established by Thermadyne in 1991 with just three 300 amps portable inverter power supplies.  By the time of its demise in 2014 Thermal arc had grown to a power house with products ranging from the home Hobbyist to Automation covering STICK, TIG, MIG, MIG Pulse and Plasma Welding.


When ITW purchased Hobart in 1995 they absorbed all Hobart Filler Metals and welding equipment from 200 Amps or less under the Miller Brand.  Arcsys Welding was established with the remaining Hobart products over 200 amps.


Thermadyne (Victor Technologies) purchased Arcsys and was absorbed into the Thermal Arc brand in 1997.


Thermadyne Group which change its name to Victor Technologies was purchased by Colfax and absorbed under the ESAB Brand in 2014.


Victor Technology Brands included Victor, Tweco, Thermal Dynamics, Stoody, Firepower, Thermal Arc, ArcAir, Cigweld.


Thermal Arc did not Manufacture all of their welding products and accessories.  Many of their products were private branded from other manufacturers.


Portable Inverters (PeeWee, ProLite, Proplus) Manufactured by Sanrex Corporation.  Made by Sanrex.  Thermal Arc made by Sanrex


Power Plus (Welding Generators) - Made by Genset.


Some of the Inverter Light Industrial models (3 in 1 MultiProcess) - Made by WTL.


The 150S, 150GTS and 150 GTSW were made by Cemont in Italy.


FirePower Conventional power supplies - Made by Helvi.


PowerMaster SP - Made by Lorch.


International Thermal Arc products sold in Europe were made by Sanrex, Electrosta in France.  Asia Pacific Cigweld models made by Argus in Italy and Sanrex.


Accessories - Such as MIG Guns, TIG Torches, remote controls, etc. were private branded Thermal Arc from various other manufactures. (CK Worldwide, Parweld, SSC Controls to name a few)


The remainder of the Thermal Arc product line such as wire feeders, TIGWave, ArcMaster, Fabstar, ExcelArc, Power Master, UltraFlex, Mega Arc Generators, were made at their factories in Troy, Ohio and Malaysia. Both facilities have been closed for years.


Part are scarce.  Best option is search for used Thermal Arc products and platforms on the Internet and such platforms as eBay, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, etc.
