Serial Number Formats

Thermal Arc had four different serial number schemes.  You can tell the age of your power supply by using one of the schemes below.


Format 1: Format one uses the first two characters of the serial number.


Example: Unit serial number N6123456A188801F


    N = Month of the year manufactured


    6 = Year manufactured  / 1996


Month of year manufactured is determined by using the following legend.


T = January                                                                                                                 

H = February

E = March

R = April

M = May

A = June

L = July

D = August

Y = September

N = October

C = November

O = December


The above unit was manufactured in October 1996.


Format 2: Format two is primarily used on Plasma Welding Torches.


Example 2: Torch serial number 7Rxxxxxx


The above torch was manufactured in April 1997


Format 3: Format three uses the first three characters of the serial number.


Example 3: Unit Serial Number 199PS12345


            1 = 1st quarter of the year.  2 would equal the 2nd quarter of the year, etc.


            99 = Year of manufacturer / 1999.


Format 4: Format four uses the first 6 number of the serial number.


Example 4: Unit Serial Number T991012010231


99 = Year of manufacturing.  98 = 1998, 99 would equal 1999.


10 = Month of year.  01 = January 02 = February, 03 March, etc.


12 = Day of the Month.  01 = 1st day of the month, 02 = 2nd day of the month, etc.
